South End featured partner: Nourish Pierce County
As part of SENCo’s work plan for 2019, we are actively supporting Nourish Pierce County’s efforts to make sure that no one in our region goes without food. A few facts that you may not know about our partner organization:
- Nourish Pierce County’s headquarters are in SENCo’s district service boundaries.
- Nourish Pierce County was formerly known by the name FISH Food Bank, but was rebranded under the organization’s new leadership.
- Nourish Pierce County has a mobile food bank location at Giaudrone Middle School, 4902 S Alaska Street every Monday from 4:30PM – 6:30PM. (Important note: the food banks will be closed Monday, May 27th in observation of Memorial Day.)
“Nourish Pierce County provides nutritious food and support services to people in need with compassion, dignity and respect. Through our network of seven food banks and two mobile food banks serving seventeen additional sites, we provide food directly to people in need across Pierce County, Washington. In 2018, Nourish shared 6 million pounds of food with 61,000 individuals, meaning that 7% of the Pierce County received food from one of our food banks. In Tacoma alone, we served more than 25,000 people last year, 12% of the city. In the past six months, we started service at two new locations within Tacoma, at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and at Tacoma Community College.”
At SENCo, we are proud to sponsor monthly food and monetary donations collected at our community meetings held the third Monday of the month, 7:00PM, at Tacoma Fire Department Station #8.
