SENCo, You’re Total Sock Stars!

We have some toe-rrific news: A HUGE thanks to all you sock stars in the South End who donated $1150 last month for Sock-tober in Tacoma!!!

If you wonder how many socks that buys, well we did, too… As it turns out, it’s two full-size shopping carts filled with socks! See pictures above of SENCo board members Andi Haug & Athena Brewer shopping for as many socks as possible at Fred Meyer with store manager Rebecca Leeper.

We send a BIG special thank you to Rebecca and her team at Fred Meyer, our wonderful community partners who generously contributed an additional $50 gift card & 10% off the entire order–including the current store-wide sale for ‘buy any pair of socks, get another (of equal or lesser value) half off.’ What a great pair of over-arching discounts helping to stretch our community dollars! We heart Fred Meyer & Rebecca’s team!

Again, our heartfelt thanks to everyone for your sole-warming donations and support for the South End. With these funds and assistance from our community partners, we were able to purchase a little over 1000 pairs of socks! We chose a healthy smattering of large, medium, & small socks, all children’s ages socks, work/walking socks, athletic socks, bright colorful socks, striped socks, fuzzy socks, even some Baby Yoda (aka Grogu) baby socks! Delivery was made to the Tacoma Rescue Mission for distribution on Monday.

We heart you, SENCo! You’re so on the ball. Keep up the good works!

Thank You, Penny!

Our favorite Pierce Transit employee Penny Grellier has pulled the cord, sadly indicating this is her last stop aboard the SENCo bus. Kidding aside, we can’t thank Penny enough for her contribution to the South End in her service to SENCo. It’s been a pleasure to work with her over the years, and we’re grateful to have her remain on the SNAPs committee even as she steps down from the board. We wish you well in all you do, Penny!

Welcome aboard, Cheryl Kopec!

Join us in welcoming our newest SENCo board member, Cheryl Kopec! As an Army Veteran who served in Iraq, local Microsoft tech-xpert who is also fluent in French, and the owner of the sweetest service dog Charlie, we are so glad to have Cheryl on the SENCo team! With her experience as treasurer for Occupy and a penchant for organization and numbers, Cheryl has already joined our Executive Board as Treasurer, and we are all grateful to have her aboard! Pun intended 😉  Welcome, Cheryl (& Charlie)!!!
