Well, it was another glorious Saturday morning in the South End for Walking Tour #6! From 72nd to 84th along Hosmer, we picked up about 6 bags of litter & discussed some great ideas for improvement. Here were some of the highlights… let us know your thoughts!

• Road over I-5 at 80th for improved traffic flow & I-5 Southbound access
• Traffic calming by road narrowing to two lanes with protected bike lanes & street parking for more walkable community vibes
• Planted medians
• Crosswalks to Pierce Transit stops on west side of street
• Pocket park or additional trees at NW corner of 84th
• Sound barrier along I-5
• Rename Hosmer to signify commitment to change

Saturday, July 9 at 9am meet at SE corner of S 84th & S Hosmer to begin & end Walking Tour.

Your South End Neighborhood Council has monthly walking tours of South End hot spots to identify potential solutions at the ground level.

All are welcome! Join our upcoming Walking Tour #6 along Hosmer from 84th to 96th. Bring your ideas, questions, & comments about the neighborhood to help inform our goals for the future of the South End.

It was another lovely morning for our 6/11 Walking Tour along Hosmer from 84th to 96th!

Special thanks to Carrie Wilhelme from the City’s Planning Department, NW Community Outreach Manager Levon Williams with the Trust for Public Land, Richard Gardner from the City’s Transportation Commission, & our very own District 5 City Council Member Joe Bushnell for joining us!

Along the route we picked up litter & noted three vacant motel properties (at least two are being converted into apartments), & the need for increased walkability of this business district/residential area.

Missing sidewalks from S 90th to S 92nd along Hosmer are on the City’s radar, with solutions being discussed for the utilities located along the east side of the street or the parking lot along the west side of the street, both of which are costly options yet sidewalks are still needed to connect safe pedestrian access.

One idea to create a more community vibe for Hosmer is to reduce traffic speed by narrowing this corridor to one lane in both directions & adding protected bike lanes on each side. What do you think about this solution? Our opportunity to make adjustments to the Transportation Primary Plan is coming up this fall; we’ll keep you posted!

Next month on 7/9 will be Hosmer part deux, from 72nd to 84th 🙂

We had another great Pop-Up Clean-Up on Hosmer today!

In one hour we collected about 7 big bags of trash & assorted large items from around 84th & Hosmer.
